5 reasons why your business needs a blog

More and more frequently, companies are raising their online presence with the help of social media channels and blogging. The opportunities for growing your business through a blog has become a widely popular and cost effective method to boost sales, and also to make sure your brand becomes readily recognised.

For those of you who are still unsure about the beauty of blogging, let me give you five reasons why your business absolutely needs a blog.

1) For small businesses who are only just getting started, a blog is a powerful tool to let the world know exactly who you are, what you do, and what makes you unique. It is the perfect way to give a taste of what you have to offer and show your potential client base that you can meet their needs by highlighting your products and services.

2) As a nation, we have become immune to hard advertising campaigns and we are no longer affected by cold billboards or banners. We are interested in the story of the brand and how their products or services can impact our lives. We want to feel as though we are connected to the people behind the product, and we want to feel as though we are investing into somebody who cares about our consumer needs. A blog is the perfect way to establish this communication with your clients.

3)You do not need to spend a fortune to create and manage a blog, all you need it a content plan, the time to do some extensive research and the ability to market yourself through the power of words.

4) Fresh content will not only make it easier to rank you on search engines, but it will encourage people to return to your website. If people are returning to your page, you are more likely to increase your conversions.

5) Last but not least, a properly optimised blog will make you more likely to crop up on search engines through keyword rich content that helps to sell your brand. You are not going to get anywhere if people haven't heard of you, or if you are hidden from the almighty Google God.

Contrary to public opinion, great products and services do not sell themselves

When I began a six month contract for a start up E-commerce Company, I was tasked with the creation of product descriptions for their new website. Using only the titles and an image of the products to guide me, I provided key-word rich descriptions with an appreciation of SEO to help the products rank as highly as possible. This was a great challenge and one I particularly enjoyed working through, despite it being incredibly time consuming.

The ability to write clear, concise and powerful descriptions is a skill. You have to be able to see the product from a consumer’s point of view, the business perspective, and also with the knowledge of how search engines read and rank information. For the website to be successful, a good copywriter is essential. I have seen many websites fail due to bad copy, which leads to low page rankings and subsequently, low traffic. I have also come across websites that are easy to navigate through and easy to find, however the product descriptions did not do enough to make me want to purchase the item. In instances like this, it is worth investing in a good copywriter who can help you reach your full potential and deliver consistent results for your business.

Contrary to public opinion, great products and services do not sell themselves; they require a dedicated individual, or team of people, to help raise their profile and get people talking. It is not something any business owner should take lightheartedly, and so I’m pleased this particular company understood why employing my services could be incredibly beneficial to their long-term strategy.

For me, this particular job was very rewarding and feedback from the company has been extremely positive. It was an absolute pleasure to work with such a vibrant and exciting company and I wish them the every success with their new business venture.
